Brocade has announced new capabilities that claim to improve the backup and recovery of critical data in mainframe environments. The new solutions are available from Brocade Partners IBM and Sun Microsystems, and utilise tape pipelining technology to accelerate read/write performance for FICON-based tape libraries over a Wide Area Network (WAN).
The new Brocade FICON tape pipelining technology is now available on the Brocade USD-X and Brocade M3000 distance extension products. The new feature facilitates the replication of data to the IBM VTS and Peer-to-Peer VTS and the Sun StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager 5 (VSM5), which are virtual tape solutions for large-scale mainframe data protection infrastructures.
"High-performance tape vaulting over distance allows customers to extend the affordability and reliability of tape to provide a robust and affordable business continuity solution for today's largest global companies," said Tom Buiocchi, VP, Worlwide Marketing, Brocade.
