The government is hopeful of resolving the issues concerning BlackBerry services in India within the next two weeks, Communications and IT Minister A. Raja said Friday.
"The crux of the problem is being resolved. We are hopeful that in a couple of weeks it will be over," Raja told reporters on the sidelines of an industry event here.
The Indian government has put a restriction on certain BlackBerry services until a proper monitoring system is put in place to enable concerned officials to track the e-mail messages sent.
The services came under the government's scanner last year when an application by Tata Teleservices to launch a similar service was rejected over security concerns. The government fears that terrorist outfits might misuse it.
India has asked the Research in Motion (RIM), the licensor of BlackBerry, which has over 12 million users globally, to route all its calls and e-mail through servers based in India.
The Canada-based firm is believed to have sought time till the end of the month to explain its position and address the issues raised by the government.
