Patni Computer Systems has chosen Nevis Networks’ LANenforcer 1048 Secure Access Switch to provide secure network access for guests and users accessing its corporate network in conference rooms. It has deployed multiple Nevis LANenforcer systems to secure conference rooms at its Mumbai - Corporate Office and Bangalore sites.
Patni has a large base of overseas customers who frequently visit company's offices in India and access its corporate network. Before purchasing LANenforcer, Patni had to routinely provide network access to visitors by provisioning dialup connections for internet access, while physically policing LAN connections to ensure that only employees connected through them.
However, this solution was unreliable and proving to be expensive to operate. It also left the network vulnerable to the introduction of malware from unmanaged endpoints as they connected.
Therefore, to address this issue Patni chose to deploy Nevis’s LANenforcer systems. These switches are installed in wiring closets at Patni. Multiple connections are made available in each conference room, enabling users to easily connect their endpoint to the network. Visitors can safely access the Internet while employees can simultaneously access specific network resources for which they are authorized.
In addition to this, the risk of mobile endpoints introducing threats onto the network is eliminated as the switches are capable of detecting and stopping known and zero day threats at the source.
Elaborating on the reasons for choosing Nevis’ solution, Ajay Soni, Vice President IT infrastructure for Patni said, "Patni is committed to providing safe and easy Internet access to each of its customers when they are visiting our facilities. The solutions from Nevis Networks ensure that the customers' intellectual property and confidential data is protected at all times, Nevis met our requirements of controlling access to corporate resources for both guests and employees while minimizing the risk of malware propagation in the network."
The LANenforcer 1048 combines identity-based access control, parallelized wire speed threat detection (stateful firewall; traffic, protocol and behavioral anomaly detection, intrusion prevention system (IPS)) and microsecond quarantine to achieve comprehensive Network Access Control.
