Microsoft Recognises Excellence In E-Governance Series

Microsoft India has announced the winners of its second 'Microsoft E-governance Awards' at Microsoft Government Leadership Summit held in New Delhi. The annual awards recognises the most impactful e-governance applications in the country.
Six Microsoft e-Governance Awardees 2007 includes project Meghdoot – Dept. of Post that recieved the award in IT for Service Delivery category; DGS&D e-Tender Management System in IT for Efficiency category; SMS Based Farmer Facilitation System – Haryana (Directorate of Agriculture) for Innovation with IT category; Control Office Automation – CRIS in IT for Functions of National Importance category; Information Kerala Mission – Kerala in IT for Local Self Governance category; and Nemmadi – Karnataka recieved the award in IT for Rural Development category.
The theme for the awards this year was 'Reaching out through ICT' and the projects nominated include those developed by state governments, central government or private companies in partnership with Microsoft.
The projects were adjudged on several parameters including effectiveness in delivering project objectives, optimising on delivering government services, innovation, relevance and scalability.
Ravi Venkatesan, chairman, Microsoft India, said, "Microsoft's e-governance vision is to enable the public sector and governments to lead the information society by leveraging Information Technology for delivering effective citizen centric services and ushering in a more participative and transparent form of governance. We are extremely happy to be working with the Indian governments on creating such applications and help enable this transformation in the country today."
