Steel major ArcelorMittal is looking for IT solutions in energy management processes and data management. The company is searching for an information technology partner with a purpose to support its back-end operations in emerging markets such as India and China, according to Malay Mukherjee, Group Management Board Member, ArcelorMittal. Mukherjee was speaking at ‘India – The knowledge hub’, a seminar recently organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
In this connection, he also had a breakfast meeting with the Chairman of Satyam Computers, B. Ramalinga Raju, in Hyderabad. Mukherjee said the partnership, if formed, would encompass IT solutions in energy management processes, synchronising daily operations, data management, creating graphic models for engineers in designing processes and online measurement of mechanical properties.
Mukharjee avoided a directly reply, when asked by newspersons about the outcome of his meeting with the Satyam Chief, and the likelihood of forging a deal with the company on IT partnership. Ramalinga Raju, also a participant at the CII meet, however informed, “We discussed the various challenges being faced by the steel industry, and how IT industry could provide solutions to key concerns.”
