Apar Industries, a player in the electrical, metallurgical and chemical engineering industry has selected HP's solutions to consolidate and manage data effectively. Apar offers value-added products and services in power transmission conductors and petroleum specialties.
This multi-divisional, multi-location company has strong individual databases for each department. More than 80 percent of Apar's data was stored in multiple database servers catering to the most sensitive and precision-intensive components of Apar's functioning – chemical engineering. Apar services industries that utilise a lot of pre-stored data, over and over again. The company used to spend most of its technically-productive time in identifying particular components of data that are vital at a given point of time.
As the company grew and its data management needs expanded, individual databases had to be collated since information from one was vital to the other departments. To meet this growing need, Apar deployed SAP ERP 6.0 on HP's Integrity Servers with HP-UX 11i V2 platform along with HP StorageWorks EVA4000 SAN Storage. The clustering software used, HP's Serviceguard extension for SAP, provided the necessary application-level failover protection. The backup of data was completed via an MSL 2024 tape library through TAR BACKUP software. SAP ERP 6.0 modules implemented included modules for Finance (FI), Controlling (CO), Material Management (MM), Products and Planning (PP) and Sales and Distribution (SD).
"We observed negligible downtime after deploying HP's solution. What is most impressive is that the entire implementation comes pre-connected and ready-to-use, so at the deployment location, the time taken to get it up and running is minor. After deploying HP's EVA, cataloguing, sorting and storing data has become systematic and retrieval swift and smooth," said G S Rao, Apar's IT head.
HP's solutions have resulted in faster and more secure data cataloguing and retrieval for Apar industries. Apart from the ease and utilisation of storage space and increased reliability of data storage due to Virtual RAID, Apar also enjoys better data manageability with the HP Command View software.
"HP is delighted to be selected by Apar to help consolidate and manage its data needs. HP continues to bring customised solutions for mid-size and growing customers that help contain costs, mitigate risk and increase growth and profitability", said Ashok Pamidi, director for Commercial Accounts, SMB and Enterprise Partners, TSG HP India.
