California Micro Devices (CMD) has established a design center in Chennai, India in a continuing collaboration with GDA Technologies, a strategic ASIC design partner.
CMD and GDA worked together on the physical design of CMD's current display controller product, the CM5100, a serial interface chip with embedded frame buffer memory that is compliant with the Video Electronic Standards Association's (VESA) Mobile Display Device Interface (MDDI) standard. The CM5100 provides a high speed and low power display interface for advanced mobile handset applications.
Juergen Lutz, VP of Engineering for California Micro Devices said, "Our Chennai presence will enable us to tap into a large and growing pool of talented engineers, allowing us to expand our R&D bandwidth more rapidly and cost effectively than if we attempted to do so entirely in Silicon Valley."
According to Ravi Thummarukudy, VP & GM of GDA's IC Solutions Business Unit, "CMD has emerged as a key supplier of innovative integrated circuits that are specified by the world's leading manufacturers of mobile handsets. We look forward to leveraging our strong presence in Chennai to help CMD establish its design center and support its goal of accelerating development programs for advanced chips aimed at mobile handset and other high volume applications."
GDA Technologies is an Electronic Design Services (EDS) and Silicon Intellectual Property (SIP) solution provider for the embedded, networking, and consumer electronics market. GDA is part of the L&T Infotech Product Engineering Services (PES) offerings, which aims to provide end-to-end product design capability to its customers.
California Micro Devices Corp. is a supplier of application specific analog and mixed signal semiconductor products for the mobile handset, digital consumer electronics and personal computer markets.
