Unveiling its plans for expansion of operations, IBM India Research Laboratory, New Delhi, earlier located within the IIT campus, has moved to a larger facility in the Vasant Kunj Institutional Area, New Delhi.
The new laboratory boasts of a better infrastructure and will provide IBM better bandwidth to address innovation needs of a larger client base worldwide.
The expansion of IBM Research facilities in India is driven by a growth in research activities related to IBM's software, services and systems businesses, as well as client collaborations in India.
"IBM Research has been in India for about 10 years, and we are committed to innovation that matters, for our company and for the world. This is evident from the fact that no other company has the resources committed to innovation that IBM does - $5 to 6 billion a year invested in R&D," said Dr. Dan Dias, director, IBM India Research Laboratory.
India Research Laboratory focuses on a number of key areas, including information and knowledge management, interaction and collaboration technologies, systems management, software engineering, services innovation, industry solutions research, etc.
The lab is also working on establishing a standards-driven, secure and cost-effective infrastructure to coordinate healthcare information through a system that includes central, state and local governments, as well as private providers for both rural and urban locations across India.
