Ericsson has collaborated with Sun Microsystems to develop an open source Java technology-based multimedia application server as well as a supporting programme for the developer community.
Ericsson will contribute parts of its server development to the open source project GlassFish. The supporting programme includes a variety of tools and expertise to support developer communities, as well as a possibility for developers to test their applications on a live IMS-based network.
Sun and Ericsson will also offer third party developers access to converged services delivery platforms through their respective developer programmes, such as the Sun Developer Network (SDN), Sun Partner Advantage Program and Ericsson Mobility World Developer Program.
Ericsson also plans to standardise development of applications and services on the Sun Java System Communications Application Server.
