Sun Fosters Open Innovation at Sun Tech Days 2008

Sun Microsystems India has rolled out the 7th edition of its Sun Tech Days developer conference in India at the Hyderabad International Convention Center, with supporting sessions in Bangalore and Chennai.

Focusing primarily on open source projects and communities and revolving around the theme of 'Open Opportunities', Sun Tech Days 2008 has 16 tracks and 70 sessions across the three-day event. During the conference, Sun technology leaders and evangelists will deliver technical presentations on topics including: Enterprise Computing, Open Source Development Methodologies, Mobility and Wireless, Security, Performance Tuning, Next Generation Advances in Web Services and Developer Tools and Productivity.

The three-day event began with a keynote address delivered by Rich Green, executive vice president, Software, Sun Microsystems titled "The Platforms That Power The Network Economy". In his keynote presentation, Rich Green highlighted the growth of the network economy in India, the evolving application development space and encouraged the developer community to innovate more through open source communities. He also highlighted recent developments at Sun including announcements to acquire MySQL and Innotek.

Revolving around the theme of "Open Opportunities" the sessions for this year's event covered technologies such as JavaFX(TM), JRuby, Java(TM) Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE), GlassFish(TM) project, NetBeans(TM) Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE), OpenJDK(TM), Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME), OpenSolaris(TM), SOA using OpenESB and Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS).

Supported by Oracle, AMD, Intel, Ericcson, Nokia, CollabNet, Sybase, Accenture, Webex, Parasoft amongst others, the three-day event provides a platform for the developer and academic community to participate in communities changing the face of technology, share knowledge, build up their skills and advance their career in the Web 2.0 world.

Sun Learning Services, a division of Sun Microsystems India also announced the launch of its first Learning Centre in Hyderabad. The centre aims at empowering the workforce on prevalent technologies and the needs of the future.
