Symantec has announced Symantec Endpoint Encryption, designed to provide advanced encryption for desktops, laptops and removable storage devices. Symantec Endpoint Encryption is an enterprise-wide security offering that prevents unauthorised access to endpoints with encryption and access control technologies.

Symantec Endpoint Encryption meets government directives and regulations as the audit reporting capabilities help customers demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements that mandate the use of encryption technologies to better protect data.

According to the release, Symantec Endpoint Encryption offers both full disk encryption as well as removable storage encryption capabilities. Symantec Endpoint Encryption – Full Disk Edition is the full disk encryption component designed to protect all data on the hard drive of Microsoft Windows-based machines. It allows IT administrators to encrypt the hard drive to protect information and prevent the exposure of sensitive data should a machine be lost or stolen. The encryption technology is designed to be transparent to the end user and performed with minimal performance impact.

Symantec Endpoint Encryption – Removable Storage Edition is the removable storage component that is designed to protect all data on USB, Firewire, Compact Flash, iPod, CD, DVDs, and other storage devices and removable media.
