Tata Indicom’s initiative to aid rural fishing communities has found support in ADC KRONE.
The communications network infrastructure solutions has announced a grant to a project that aims at enabling fishermen to receive weather updates and information related to the concentration of fish in the sea, on their mobile phones.
Tata Teleservices is working on the initiative FISH – Intelligent Navigation Gear (FISHING) in association with MS Swaminathan Research Foundation at Veerampattinam village in Tamil Nadu.
The project aims at covering 8100 kilometers of the country’s coastline and the commercial service of the application will be available shortly.
Through this service, fishermen can receive information on the pricing at major ports, aggregation centers, location of large schools of fish.
They can also receive wave and wind information besides getting the latest news on their cell phones. In the regions the mobile coverage would extend six kilometers into the sea.
MSSRF has commissioned the application.
