In today's expanding telecom world, the competitive advantage of using relevant data to drive business growth and retention cannot be undermined. World-class telecom companies are capitalising on infrastructure like Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to efficiently manage the terabytes of data that their customers generate each time they use the company’s services or even when they don’t.
In order to make the most of the Indian telecom boom, data warehousing and business analytics solutions provider, Teradata, has been devising its strategies focused on Indian telecom providers. Girish Shivani, business consultant, Teradata India, says, "Business data warehousing is an important solution for service providers to accommodate their growing data. For telecom companies the value of corporate data is immense and its management is an important task. Maturing technologies and increasingly sophisticated applications are prompting CIOs to view their data warehouses as instrumental tools that can be used in the future to gain competitive advantages and secure corporate data".
Enterprises are facing new challenges everyday while trying to meet their business and customer needs. Organisations are now realising the need for data warehouses and are also willing to invest in the same. Shivani explains, "For telecom service providers, customer acquisition along with customer retention is an important task. Business data warehouse solutions will not only help them to achieve this, but will go a step further and aid fraud management." Teradata has also tied up with Microsoft to push its products and services further. The company has also acquired major telecom players as its customers in the BI segment though names are not revealed.
An EDW strategy can enable telecom companies to use the right data at the right time for customer intervention to drive revenue and profitability on an ongoing basis, including tactical operations in real time. The company has established two global consultancy centres in Pune and Mumbai. From these centres, the company is catering to its global as well as Indian customers for professional services in the data warehousing and business intelligence software segments. Shivani elaborates, "Though we have kept our focus on large enterprises, we now wish to transact with small and medium size companies in India as well. We have tied up with many partners to expand our reach". As there is a growing concern among Indian telecom players on the deployment of BI solutions and its benefits, the company is positive about its solution.
