Microsoft Research Develops Spam Killer For Search engines
By: Priyanka Pradhan   |   Jul 17,2006
Microsoft has just released a tool called the ‘Strider Search Defender' to prevent spammers from attacking internet search engines. According to Microsoft, the tool will identify spam URLs that are distributed through different sites and prevent them from being indexed by search sites.

'The Strider Search Defender' looks like a foolproof response to the onslaught of spam URLs on social networking sites, blogs and forums which spread rapidly and even start to appear on popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft's MSN. The tool which uses elements of technology previously developed in Microsoft Research projects, will be able to distinguish between legitimate URLs on Web forums and spam URLs.

In addition, the company has also released a public report for search engine companies. Yi-Min Wang, group manager of the Cybersecurity and Systems Management Research Group, Microsoft, said he hopes that search-engine companies like MySpace and Google BlogSpot will use the specifications for the tool described in the report to optimize their search engines to filter spam URLs.
