"The Core 2 Duo processors are simply the best processors in the world. Not since Intel introduced the Pentium processor has the industry seen the heart of the computer reinvented like this. The Core 2 Duo desktop processor is an energy-efficient marvel, packing 291 million transistors yet consuming 40% lower power, while delivering the performance needed for the applications of today and tomorrow," said Paul Otellini, president and chief executive of Intel.Intel Core 2 processors are based on a new micro-architecture, which sports shorter pipelines and high performance per clock/watt ratio. Thee new processors feature 14-stages pipeline 4-issue execution engine (Intel Wide Dynamic Execution),with unified level two cache that allows one of two processing cores to use the entire reservoir of shared memory if necessary while the other core is idle. All of this results in vastly improved performance.
The new Core 2 chips for mobile computers also feature a number of unique capabilities including Intel Dynamic Power Coordination, which allows to clock two cores within a microprocessor independently, Intel Dynamic Bus Parking, which lowers chipset power consumption when full power is not required and Enhanced Intel Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing, which saves power by writing out cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage and increases battery life.
