Hollywood Relaxing Digital Media Stand

The movie industry's very rigid stand on digital media seems to be relaxing. Under rule changes expected to be adopted by the DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA), the group that produces the technology designed to prevent DVDs from being copied, people will be able to copy a digital movie onto a specially made DVD.

Hollywood has long struggled with the piracy problem and this move fits with its overall strategy to combat piracy by offering consumers a legal, inexpensive and convenient way to obtain digital movies so they won't bother to steal them.

Digital movies, offered by companies like CinemaNow and Movielink, have failed to catch on one of the reasons being that downloaded movies are prevented from being copied to disc and, thus, can't be watched on TV sets.
