Nikon Starts Indian Subsidiary

The USD 6.3-billion Nikon Corporation, with operations straddling America, Europe, Oceania, Asia , Middle East and Africa, today announced the establishment of its 100 per cent subsidiary in India. Nikon India will manage the Indian as well as the large Middle East market (comprising Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Turkey, Iran, Bahrain, Israel, Oman, Qatar and UAE).

Nikon India Private Limited is set to delight the Indian photography enthusiast with a wider variety of its world renowned professional and compact digital cameras, the Nikon D-SLRs and the Nikon COOLPIX.

Speaking on the occasion, Hidehiko Tanaka, Managing Director, Nikon India Private Limited said, "We are glad to launch a 100 per cent subsidiary in India, which is a highly promising market. The presence of Nikon India will lead to enhanced consumer choice and greater consumer outreach programs through an augmented distribution network as well as superior service support. We will also undertake various activities like workshops and photo-contests to promote the photography culture in India in a manner that addresses the needs and aspirations of the Indian photographic community. As part of our Vision 2010 we hope to capture 45 per cent of the Indian digital SLR market and 10 per cent of the Indian compact camera market."

While Nikon already has two regional distributors, these networks will be augmented. By the end of 2006-07 Nikon plans a more than 100 per cent expansion in retail consumer outreach through its dealer network.

I am glad to know that "Nikon India"choose Capital Enterprises Pvt.ltd.as their subsidiary in Kolkata.Now Nikon useres don't have to fly to Delhi or Bombay for purchasing/servising Nikon products.Congratulation " Capital Enterprises"12 J l Nehru Road. Kolkata 13.

Nikon should develop its service network at the earliest. I bought a Nikon coolpix L4 from CP new delhi from a reputed photoshop.. Shortly afterwards it it started giving problems. If it was switched off it did not wanted to start. By the time i bas back in my hometown Varanasi.I found out that there was no service centre of Nikon in India except Mumbai and Delhi! I contacted to the service centre and they advised me to send the camara by courier. Now with the courier service in my place I did not had the confidence to send the item through courier.Now I had to wait till i go to Delhi and visit the Nikon service centre again. The gist is friends, never purchase a product whose service centre in not around, because oneday or the other u r sure going to need it!

I am a senior photojournalist of DELHI JOURNALIST ASSOCIATION member, last 45 years doing photography ,from 1975 onwards I am using NIKON Cameras,now I am using Nikon D70S and using all Nikon lenses and I am very glad Nikon has landed in India. I would like to have some latest phamlets and NIKON CALANCER OF 2008 Thank you.

Nikon should improves its product quality first. I know of 3 owners who complained of their LCD screen developing red dots after a few months of use. Nikon please listen

It's no doubt an important step and good news for Nikon users in the country. But as Sourabh (the previous post) has indicated it shouldn't end up being a bad news. I believe, the news will remain good as long as Nikon strives to keep the price tag close to the US market price.

Bad news. It was not like Nikons were not available in the market before. Entry-level Nikons were dirt cheap before this news (grey). The effect of official Nikon presence in India is already clear. Nikons will now carry a more premium price tag. JJMehta, already has official Nikon India, products. They used to sell Coolpix L10 for 5k, now the new retail pricing is 7.5k See?
