Samsung India is aiming to increase their digital camera market share by introducing four new models that cover the different sections of the market. For the entry level segment there's the Digimax S-500 5 megapixel camera, 2.4 inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom. The Pro815 and S-800 on the other hand represent the prosumer market segment with features like 8 megapixel resolution and larger LCD displays.
The flagship of the new digital still camera (DSC) range is the advanced 'all in one' Pro815 model. Features in this 8 megapixel model include the world's largest 3.5" TFT LCD screen, world's largest lithium ion battery and also the world's first top LCD for waist level shooting. A pricepoint of Rs 54,990 may be a bit too steep for a non-DSLR camera, but all these “world's first” features may justify the price for some photography enthusiasts.
If you're looking at putting a serious hole in your pocket there are other options in DSCs from Samsung like the Digimax S-800 priced at Rs 22 ,990, Digimax S-600 priced at Rs 14,990 and Digimax S-500 priced at Rs 12,990.
Samsung India today also announced its foray into the DVD Camcorder segment by launching its first DVD Camcorder model, VP-DC 163i in the Indian market, which features 33x optical zoom lens and 1200x digital zoom that lets the user capture even the most distant subjects in perfect close up. Features like DVD-RW/-R/+RW/+R (Dual Layer) Capability, 4-in-1 multi memory card slot, and the 2.5" wide LCD of the DC-163i, make it an impressive buy at Rs 36, 990.
They also introduced a 6-in-1 multifunctional camcorder, VP-MM10, that includes a digital video camcorder, digital still camera, MP3 Player, data storage, voice recorder and web cam functionality at an affordable price of Rs 29,990. With the introduction of the new range, Samsung now has a range of 8 Digital Camcorders in its lineup.
