Next-Gen DVDs Hacked
By: Gagan Gupta   |   Jan 29, 2007
Just when Hollywood thought their spiffy new high-def movies on the next gen Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats were safe, hackers have proved them wrong once again.

According to the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) Licensing Authority, the hackers have illegally obtained the encryption keys, and used them to decrypt high-definition DVDs. The stolen keys can now be easily downloaded from hdkeys.com.

Hollywood is obviously blaming the idea of allowing users to play the next-gen formats on their PC, which is a pretty insecure format for just about any kind of encryption.

still it would be a long time for people to copy them easily, as copying would mean to another blank HD disc, which in any case cost a lot. Copying it on your PC doesnt mean anything, as the quality of HD is visible on the big screen.
