Panasonic has announced that its first Blu-ray Disc player, the DMP-BD10, will be available this September. Blu-ray Disc is a next generation optical disc format developed for high capacity software applications and high-definition video.
The format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD has been raging for quite some time now with major consumer electronics manufacturers like Apple, LG and Samsung and movie studios like Walt Disney and Warner Bros. siding wth Blu-ray.
The introduction of the DMP-BD10 is timed to coincide with Panasonic's release of its first 1080p http://tech.moneycontrol.com/news/cebit-coverage/panasonics-blu-ray-disk-player/34/india/ Plasma TVs this fall, which can make full use of Blu-ray's high definition entertainment capabilities.
Pricing in the United States on the DMP-BD10 has not been finalized, but will be less than $1,500.
