This war is similar to the Betamax and VHS wars of the 1980s. While that war was won by VHS hands down no one is sure who will emerge as the dominant standard here, therefore Imation one of the leaders in the optical manufacturing market has decided to be cautious and manufacture both storage formats. This makes a lot of sense commercially as by having its fingers in both pies Imation is hedging its bets as to who will emerge the winner. Considering that both can store Hi-Def video and tones of data Imation are sure playing it safe.
