Anyone who has not been living under a rock for the last few months has heard of the battle raging between various companies backing either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD as the next gen optical formats. From the current looks of it, Blu-Ray seems to be winning the war with first gen media hitting the markets already.
So when I came across this article it did not surprise me too much. It seems our friends at DailyTech have stumbled onto something exciting. TDK, it seems, has been working on not only expanding Blu-Ray capacity, but also the speed of the format. They are proposing to bring out quad-layer 100 GB media for starters, and will ramp them up to 8 layers at 25 GB/layer totaling 200 GB of Blu-ray capacity.
