Universal Music CEO, Doug Morris has publicly blasted the world’s most popular video sharing site, YouTube, and MySpace, the popular social networking site. The Universal official told investors at a Merrill Lynch investors' conference in Pasadena that the label believes these new businesses are 'copyright infringers' and that they owe labels tens of millions of dollars. He added that Universal, owned by Vivendi, will deal with these companies shortly. YouTube and MySpace have declined to respond to the comment.
Reports claim that Universal’s talks with MySpace are under way, while talks with YouTube have deteriorated. The label is reportedly likely to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against the video-sharing company, if no agreement is reached by the end of the month.
