Universal Studio Puts Off Blu-Ray
By: Gaurav Seth   |   Sep 18,2006

In what happens to another Blu-Ray – HD-DVD tussle, the President of Universal Studio’s, Craig Kornblau, has heavily put off Blu-Ray. His arguments are based on the reviews and the feedback in the forums from the early adopters of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. He says that HD DVD has been able to deliver the best high definition image and sound quality at the best prices for consumers today.

According to one of the first face off's between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD in August, High-Def Digest showed that HD-DVD came out with much better video quality than Blu-Ray for their respective copies of 'Training Day,' 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' and 'Rumor Has It....'. The Blu-ray titles featured increased noise/artifacting and darker overall color casting. Issue of cropping also popped up with the three Blu-ray titles tested.

But in one of their recent updates, they took up newer Blu-Ray titles from Warner encoded using VC-1 instead of MPEG-2 and the results were much closer. Though Blu-Ray has plugged the gap, the war is far from over.
