EA Exec Not Impressed With Gears of War
By: Avinash Bali   |   Nov 11, 2006

Even though all of us at office (and people the world over too) think Gears of War rocks, EA apparently isn't too impressed with Epic's thirds person 'tactical' shooter as they feel it isn't innovative enough. This coming from people who churn out a million Sims/NBAs/NFLs etc. per year strikes me as a bit umm... weird (we journalists unfortunately have to maintain some sort of decorum here).

Anyway, here's what Electronic Arts Montreal general manager, Alain Tascan had to say on Gears of War, "What is Gears of War? I mean Gears of War brings nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter... Like, zero. Only two very brave UK-based journalists said, 'You know what, Gears of War is a great game but it's like what Quake was a few years ago.' When you go to metacritic and you see a 96 for Gears of War, then you read the critics saying, 'Okay, storyline—there's none, gameplay is not innovative...' Then I say, why did they give this 96? They were blown away by the high quality of the graphics... Myself, I prefer something more creative."
Let’s wait and watch and see just how innovative Army of One actually is.

In what way was bf2142 innovative? It was the same thing with a different setting and also the titan mode is like a little improvised onsluaght mode form ut 2004

o i dont think they can be really saying those things without looking at theier own other games

I guess ea is just pist off at the fact that very few if any of their own games generate so much hype. The fact that there's so much hype aroung gow is confirmation that this game is great, in general crap games don't generate any hype but games that look and feel great do. Look at halo and metal gear solid.

He could have made a valid point if he had chosen another approach and spoken about how people may tend to get influenced by the hype created by such aaa titles, but then again, it's ea...

Graphically ea cant even comment on gears of war when compared to games in there own franchise. When comparing the game play side of things, fifa has been around for a long time an has'nt progressed as much as you would of thought considering the amount of time the games been about, so for me and many other football fans who play football sims, would probably pick pes as there game of choice. Sometimes you cant help but think companies comment on certain things to put there name in the spotlight and use the huge amount of attention on gears of war as a pr stunt to there own advantage. When ea games make a game on the same level on gow then they can comment until that day i think its best they keep quiet considering the bs they've been putting out for consoles over the years.
