EA's Taking Over the World... One Developer at a Time
By: Avinash Bali   |   Aug 28, 2006
It's a known fact that EA is one of the biggest names in the gaming industry today and it seems they won't rest until and unless they own every single developer out there (slight exaggeration). German magazine (or is it newspaper) "Die Welt" is reporting that EA's executive vice president and general manager of international publishing Gerhard Florin is extremely keen on adding Crytek (same dudes behind Far Cry and the upcoming Crysis) to their roster of acquired developers.

If this deal does go down, EA will have rights over the Crytek 2 engine (the engine powering Crysis); add that to the recently leased Unreal 3 engine from Epic and EA may just end up dominating the next gen FPS genre.

As I mentioned earler, this isn't the first company EA has acquired; in recent times they've bought over Criterion Studios (the British developers behind the Burnout series and Black) and just last week, they acquired Phenomic studios, the Germany-based developer behind SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars.

It's the end of the world as we know it...takingovertheworld.jpg
