Supporters of Hugo Chavez (president of Venezuela) are not very pleased by this scenario as they feel this game sends out a very negative message to Americans. Even though the president isn't in the game, his supporters feel this game could tarnish his image and the image of Venezuela.
According to Pandemic Studios, creators of this game, they want to portray their game in realistic surroundings, hence they chose Venezuela. "Though Mercenaries 2 is based on a fictional scenario, the plot is realistic enough to believe that it could actually happen," said a Pandemic representive.
