As you may or may not know, conventional gaming consoles like the Xbox, PS2 etc. use what is called an 'Indirect digital input', where a control pad is used to recognize the player's commands and use them in the game. Now Nintendo's Wii on the other hand, uses a new and robust way of inputting commands called 'Direct analog input', where the console recognizes hand movements on its controller relative to the sensor. According to Nintendo, the Wii will have its own artificial intelligence that will help game developers 'teach the Wii' on how to understand these movements. This technology, known as LiveMove, has been developed by Nintendo and AiLive and here's a slight heads up on that:
LiveMove lets developers focus directly on creative work without the burden of onerous coding requirements, helping them quickly unleash the potential of Wii. The only limitation is the game creator's imagination.
In addition to this, Nintendo has announced the launch of the "Wii Compact Software" in 2007, which will allow gamers to download Wii titles onto their consoles as opposed to purchasing discs; however, the approximate pricing has not been decided yet.
