Mobile ESPN network will now offer American football matches for viewing on cell phones for US customers. The subscription service offers live and complete coverage of upto 25 games per month from ESPN and ESPN2. Starting with Florida State vs. Miami on September 4, the coverage will continue throughout the 2006 college football season in the States. The games also will be shown on air and on the ESPN360 broadband channel.
The service, however, is restricted to Mobile ESPN customers who opt for the Total Sports Package tier, which is included in the price and can be accessed from the service’s “Sideline” on-screen menu. The Total Sports Package costs $25 a month in addition to the subscriber’s choice of plans that start at $40.
Although Mobile ESPN plans, come with text alerts, real-time scores and news, ESPN.com Fantasy Manager and other features targeting the sports enthusiast, Mobile ESPN hasn’t been doing well in the US. The move seems to be a last ditch attempt to better the lukewarm response to Mobile ESPN, launched nation wide in February this year.
