The January issue of Game Informer has a real surprise in store for all you Command and Conquer fans. Do you remember C&C: Renegade that released a few years back? Well it seems like EA’s following the same, with a brand new First Person Shooter based in the C&C universe called Command & Conquer: Tiberium.
Renegade was a huge flop, but I had a special place for it in my heart. They were so many possibilities for the game – some were explored (albeit half-heartedly) while others were left untouched. Let’s hope that EA does a better job with this RTS/FPS mutant. After all, the online FPS genre has seen a lot of changes - like the unlock system we see in most FPSes these days and cover systems that add that tactical depth in shooters – if they manage to pull all these mechanics together, while keeping everything else simple but solid, they already have a huge fan base that’ll buy the game.
Here are a few details (Via ShackNews):
* Will ship on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360
* Set 11 years after the third Tiberium war
* Squad-based action
* Squads are called R.A.I.D. (Rapid Assault and Intercept Deployment)
* Known squad types are infantry, missile infantry, Titan and Orca
* Missions are around the "Mediterranean Red Zone"
* Special powers such as "Orbital Slug" are available
