Microsoft, Nintendo Sued
By: Priyanka Pradhan   |   Aug 08,2006
Texas firm Anascape has sued Microsoft and Nintendo on grounds of collectively infringing on 12 patents, relating to their videogame controller technology. Anascape claims that the two game giants have illegally borrowed 12 of its controller designs, including "Game controller with analog pressure sensor(s)" and a "Remote controller with analog button", plus a "3D controller with vibration. However, Sony has not been named in the lawsuit.

The patents were obtained by Californian Brad Armstrong between 1999 and 2005, who now claims that the infringement by Nintendo and Microsoft was willful and deliberate, which entitled Anascape to enhanced damages. The Texan company is now seeking a jury trial to settle the dispute and, a permanent injunction and/or a compulsory licensing fee. Both, Nintendo and Microsoft have declined to comment on the lawsuit.
