Charges of wrongdoings brought against Google never seem to last long and often disappear from collective consciousness even before a person can say Jack Daniels. In the latest incident a local New York county politician who had sued Google over links to child pornography dropped his suit earlier this week.
Jeffrey Toback of the Nassau County Legislature had said the Google adsense programme had advertisements that included links to minors engaged in lewd acts. However in a volte-face the lawyers for Toback filed documents Wednesday saying that the legislator wished to drop his case.
Google, ever the diplomatic company expressed its pleasure at this development. However it did say that the allegations were "irresponsible" and "far-fetched." A Google spokesperson said that Toback could have contacted the company first before pursuing action in court. The company said it has safety measures in place to ensure access to child porn is difficult. It removes references to the subject and reports content to law enforcement whenever a search is started with this taboo subject in mind.
To me it just sounded like your normal politician out for his 15 minutes.
