Content distribution and Internet TV company Jumpstart TV, has launched nine new how-to channels online that range in topics from how to repair your computer to how to improve your golf game.
Each channel is a standalone section of the site, which represents a wide topic like Sports and Fitness or Technology.
When asked how the idea of a how-to video site came about, Brian Knight, president of Jumpstarttv.com said, "My background is community how-to websites. The first site we developed was focused on how-to use Microsoft technology (SQLServerCentral.com) but it was all article-based. I thought there must be a better way to disseminate a topic that would appeal to a reader's learning style."
Knight believes that people traditionally use the Internet to learn something new and solve a problem fast and since people have less and less time to improve themselves, he saw no faster way to teach that user the concept than to show them in a 2-10 minute video versus have to read an 8 page article.
"The goal of Jumpstart TV is to change the way people learn on the web," said Knight. "We want users to be able to view our site each day to learn something new in just a few
minutes. Our new nine channels help complete our primary vision."
Jumpstart TV currently has more than 100 contributors that are online or in the queue. More contributors come in each week and the site has film crews around the US.
Jumpstart TV will eventually allow anyone, to upload a how-to video on the site. Knight said, "This provision is currently under development and should be available shortly. Users will be able to add a video to the site and it will enter an upcoming videos queue. After an editor approves the video, it will be categorized and viewable on the web for all and marked as a community-contributed video."
The company plans to launch a new channel each month and grow the existing channels by hundreds of videos a month. They also plan to make the information available on mobile devices, so users can watch the videos on your cell phone.
