RealNetworks has announced integration between its Rhapsody digital music service with the TiVo service, offering TiVo subscribers, access to over 3 million songs on demand, from the TiVo remote.
Jim Denney, vice president of product marketing at TiVo said, "Partnering with Real to integrate the Rhapsody service is part of our commitment to providing TiVo subscribers the best possible home entertainment experience. With this new exclusive set of features, TiVo and RealNetworks intend to give consumers the ultimate method of finding and enjoying digital music from the comfort of their living rooms."
This collaboration will allow subscribers to directly stream Rhapsody's 3+ million songs to any broadband-connected TiVo box in their house, as many times as they like. Through TiVo's interface, subscribers will have access to music playback as well as their personal library of playlists and tracks. Moreover, any song discovered and flagged via the TiVo remote will also be available in the user's personal Rhapsody library when accessed from a PC. The new TiVo music service will be powered by Rhapsody DNA.
RealNetworks Inc also announced that consumers will soon have PC-free direct access to its Rhapsody digital music service, via the Logitech Squeezebox and Transporter home audio players, created by Slim Devices, a company recently acquired by Logitech. The new Rhapsody feature-set for the Squeezebox and Transporter players is expected to be available in the United States from Logitech on January 15, 2007 as a part of a free update to be available at http://www.logitech.com/downloads.
Users will be able to search Rhapsody's library for specific artists, albums and songs — and then instantly play back selections via the intuitive Squeezebox and Transporter remote interface without ever having to interact with a PC. Users can choose to continue their Rhapsody service beyond the initial 30 day trial period for $9.99 per month. More details can be found at http://offer.rhapsody.com/squeezebox.
