By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Jun 19, 2008
Lenovo has announced the availability of the IdeaPad U110 consumer notebook PC in India.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U110 - keeping the fashion conscious user in mind - is designed like an object of art, maintains the company. It has a tendril pattern etched into its aluminum lid, patterned vents on its base and a piano finish on the keyboard. The laptop is further enhanced by a frameless screen and weighing approximately 1.05 kg, is about 18.4mm thick and has an LED screen. The IdeaPad U110 is available in black or red.

The laptop comes with a 120 GB hard drive, up to 3 GB of memory, Intel Centrino processing technology, a built-in camera, WLAN, Ethernet and Bluetooth (select models) connectivity, an external DVD burner and the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.

"Customers end up compromising either looks for technology or technology for looks. This no-compromise ultra portable notebook from Lenovo offers both. We're confident the much-anticipated IdeaPad U110 ultra portable notebook will excite customers and give them a unique and rewarding computing experience." said Amar Babu, Managing Director, Lenovo India.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is available at all Lenovo authorized storefronts for a price point starting at Rs. 98,000.

I'm well aware of the price premium that "ultra-portables" have over mainstream notebooks. But look at it the other way. It's much more simlper to carry a full fledged integrated notebook weighing a few pounds more than carry an ultraportable with separate pieces like DVD drives hanging about. I'm no fan of weight crunching in any case. Prefer to carry a 2kg XPS or similar DTR notebook with good specs than being a weight wussy over a "ooohh,,it's sooo liiight" 1.05 kg notebook. That too a LENOVO. If it was HP or Sony or Toshiba,,i'd give it a thought.

It's pricy for a reason, check the dimensions and the weight of this laptop and compare it to a Dell XPS. You'll be surprised at the difference. It is called an ultra portable for a reason.
Not that i have anything against Dell. They are a launching a similar laptop soon. It will also be priced in the same bracket. maybe a bit cheaper.

Just 1.05 kg? If thats not a mistake this is incredible - perhaps better than the Mac Book air!

120GB HDD, Bluetooth on SELECT MODELS??, and EXTERNAL DVD Burner,, with prices starting at 98,000???

I dunno who's the bigger idiot,,some guy at Lenovo thinking such a speced out notebook at such a price will sell with a LENOVO brand?? or someone who actually buys it.

One can get a Dell XPS starting at this price range.
