The Laptop for 2015
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Jun 17, 2007
The popularity of laptops seems to be steadily increasing to the point, that now any individual with a basic idea of mechanical design seems to be 'showing off' concept machines that probably will never make it to the market. This growing trend can be seen from the fact that Felix Schmidberger a designer recently unveiled what he calls "the laptop for 2015".

The oddly named “Compenion” will sport an OLED touch screen which will double up as an onscreen keyboard. The laptop will be controlled by a "senstylus" pen or by hand and will with the help of external docking stations double up as either entertainment centers at home or serious business machines at work.

While this concept laptop indeed does look like a drool-worthy product, given the rate at which things are changing in computing now days we could probably see a product like this as soon as 2010.

Do i still need to use a laptop by 2015? cant the thing in the Laptop come out of that console? Cant we have devices which will be easy to hold( even while standing), much easy to use ( pls do away with those many keys on a laptop, I only have ten fingers or do I really need to touch my laptop to use it?), compatible with any other electronic devise( wider interoperability) and has all i need in a day's work/play....The above one is just an OLD laptop in a NEW package.

Touch screen is not the way to go, the technology currently being used increasingly in PDA`s and Smartphones is set for a complete overhaul. The main drawback is the lack of any physical feedback for the users hence making it difficult, irritating and an erronous mode of input.
Another thing, laptop sector is growing at unprecedented speeds and and we`ll see the gaps widening between business and entertainment/multimedia segments. a Lappy encompassing all the features is passe. Hence for 2015 a large screen will be great for the multimedia/gamer(depending upon how the gaming console mrkt shapes up) users but wont particularly woo the corporates.
The compenian `ll be great for the nxt bond flick..
The idea is not to make the laptops of the future more complicated, evolved not complicated
