Power Consumption on LCD Makers' Minds
By: Siddharth Bhatia   |   Sep 19, 2007

Excessive power consumption by LCD screens is becoming a serious problem, and is surely going to attract the dreaded consumption tax, or whatever they call it. LCD manufacturers are beginning to feel the heat and are seeing the need to take appropriate action.

It may be recalled that the UK government has been considering a ban on plasma TVs.

An answer to the problem could come from Japan, where it all began: traditional rivals Sony, Sharp, and Hitachi have agreed to jointly investigate new technologies, with the intention of reducing power consumption to half of current levels by 2011.

Meanwhile, Europe is destined to become the most important TV market in the world.
