Hutch is Now Vodafone
By: Anjali Rego   |   Sep 19, 2007
Come September 21, 2007, Hutch will be renamed Vodafone. Vodafone had acquired 67 per cent in Hutchison Essar from Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa a few months ago, in a bid to enter the fast-growing Indian market.

Global player Vodafone completed the acquisition of Hutchison Essar in May 2007 and the company was formally renamed Vodafone Essar in July 2007.

Asim Ghosh, MD, Vodafone Essar, says, "We’ve had a good innings as Hutch in India and today marks a new beginning for us, not as a departure from the fundamentals that created Hutch, but an acceleration into the future with Vodafone’s global expertise."

This transition is estimated to touch over 35 million customers across 400,000 shops and thousands of Hutch’s own employees, as well as employees of its business associates. This makes it the largest ever transformation for Hutch, considering the fact that in India, the brand itself has undergone several changes in the past.

The O&M Staff working for BPL firstly became Essar Staff , then Nokia staff then Hutch Staff and now Vodaphone Staff.....sitting in same chair, they became employee of FIVE companies.....Isn't it funny?????
But Vodaphone is a too long name to say phonetically....BPL or Essar or Hutch were so short... Anyway, let us see if this merger brings some solace to the customers and to the working staff..........
wiseguru @ Sep 21, 2007
Seems to be good. But what about the BPL mobile collaboration?
Will the BPL provide support to Vodaphone in maharashtra circle where Hutch has less towers tthan BPL mobile.

to improve the custormer relations is the better way to think people about VODAFONE.

Oh finally. It should happen a lot earlier. Hope they will launch the 3G and GPS service soon.
Saurav Ghosh @ Sep 20, 2007
Lets Hope for the best but I Think that Vodafone will provide better and good facilities than Hutch and promise for a better network
Abhishek @ Sep 20, 2007
Whatever they do, I certainly pray that they don't introduce the trend of 'locked' GSM handsets here in India, like they have done abroad....
Bizzy @ Sep 20, 2007
I hope they do not try to hike up the rates in our India market. I do not mind good after sales service which we lack in India.

Hi everyone. Vodafone does not believe in lowering the price. In the European region and UK especially they are the most expensive service provider. But as far as the service goes they are the best in the business. I am sure they will come up with some of the best technology to support the worlds largest growing economy.
Kunal @ Sep 20, 2007
Hutch has mastered the art of brand change.. in the real sense only the colour changes..with a dash of so called values.. they will continue to remain the way they are.
vignesh @ Sep 20, 2007
How the consumers are effected ? Hope for some upgradation in services may be expected. All the best.
KMK Chand @ Sep 20, 2007
What is in name? It is of no concern to customers unless service is improved and rates lowered considerably.
i. e. divasli @ Sep 19, 2007
How is the Changeover going to get into affect. Will the Logo on the Cell would be renamed to Vodafone and the bills would be with Name tagged Vodafone or will it be continued as Hutch for a few period.?..How is the Customer going to get benifitted in terms of Good Network and service Quality & Value added stuffs
udaykumar @ Sep 19, 2007
So, what's in it for the Hutch - now Vodafone - users? Any fireworks that make us happy, and blow the socks off competitors? Send us a happy word, Mr. Asim Ghosh.
