Mobile users who want to make their phones theft-proof can use a new technology developed by a US-based firm that is being offered in India by Chennai-based California Software Company Limited (Calsoft).
The product, Theftguard ME, can completely disable the device when lost or stolen, Calsoft said in a release here Thursday.
Developed by Texas-based Softex Inc, the product enables mobile users to back up their personal information and it supports many mobile devices, including smart phones, feature phones and PDAs.
"ThetfGuard deploys the best technology that we have seen for securing mobile devices," Calsoft CEO S. Sam Santhosh said.
"Even if the SIM card is replaced or the phone is taken out of the country, the device can be disabled remotely and can later be enabled if retrieved and either way the customer can retrieve the data with virtually no effect," he added.
Softex Inc CEO Apurva Bhansali said: "Considering the soaring rate of mobile phone thefts worldwide resulting in complete loss of critical or confidential data, it is perfect timing for us to enter India, a large market that is expanding at a phenomenal pace."
The service will be sold directly to device manufacturers and service providers.
