Mobile Radio Trunking Service Hits Bangalore
By: Priyanka Pradhan   |   Sep 25, 2006
Media conglomerate, Zee Group is all set to launch a digital public mobile radio trunking service in Bangalore, in collaboration with Motorola. The service will allow users to communicate with each other using digital walkie- talkie handsets sets, which look like mobile phones and allow broadband access. Moreover, these digital handsets facilitate conversations within the user group free of charge and have a range of over 50 km, which means they can be used anywhere in a city.

An important feature of the service is that calls can be made to and received from other networks as well, provided there is an interconnect agreement with telecom operators, as in the case of mobile phone service providers. Also, unlike their analogue counterparts, the digital handsets will facilitate private conversations within the group. Moreover, the digital public mobile radio trunking service is cost effective, vis-à-vis mobile phone services. The digital walkie talkie handsets are available for less than Rs 10,000 and the service is bundled with value-adds like broadband and SMS at Rs 1,000 a month.

Zee Group has already applied to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for 1 MHz of the 3 MHz spectrum reserved for digital radio trunking services. However, Zee has also pointed out that except for group company Procall, which offers these services, no one else has applied for spectrum in Bangalore.

Dear Prashant

This digital radio technology is a very old technology which has been dropped in many contries. If you feel to communicate to a group i would suggest u to go for analog radio as Anolog Radios are more reliable than digital radios.
It has been found that the failure rate is very high in dital radios.
