Motorola Introduces Robotic Stores In the US

Motorola has announced that it is testing 'robotic retail stores' in the US, to vend mobile phones to their consumers in supermarkets and malls. Motorola says it is moving beyond the traditional retail mode by introducing 'InstantMoto' and is hoping to directly connect with consumers in terms of convenience. The vending machines in this pilot program are being supplied by Zoom Systems.

Jason Few, corporate vice president of Global Retail, Motorola said, "Continuing our effort to reinvent mobile retail culture and transform the consumer experience, this on-demand retail solution is an interesting approach to the many extensions of our retail strategy. This pilot program is an opportunity to bring never-seen-before convenience to consumers who are looking for ways to make life easier."

InstantMoto machines will be initially available in approximately 20 locations in the US at airports and malls by November 2006. The vending machines will stock more than 25 Motorola products including carrier-ready MotoRazr handsets, Bluetooth enabled headsets and car chargers among other products. Currently these vending systems are in the San Francisco International Airport and Macy's on State Street.
