An SMS Thursday informed mobile subscribers here about the status of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway – the major road link between the Kashmir valley and the rest of India.
The message also informed about the depth of snow at various points on this 294-km land route that winds its way through the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas.
"National Highway is closed", reads the SMS sent to all mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir.
The message informs that three feet of snow have accumulated in Qazi Gund on the other side of the Jawahar Tunnel that connects Jammu to the Kashmir valley.
More than 1,000 vehicles, mostly trucks, are stranded on the blocked highway, especially on the two sides of the Tunnel.
"There are no passenger vehicles stranded on this side of the highway," said a traffic police official.
