LG Shine To Eat Up The Chocolate
By: Aalaap Ghag   |   Oct 19,2006

LG's Black Label series is better referred to as the Chocolates, but that will change soon with the introduction of the new Shine at KES 2006. The follow up in the Black Label series looks cut out to gobble up the Chocolate.

The phone is a shiny (no shit!), brushed aluminum finish phone that's 1.3cm thin (the Chocolate is 1.52cm thick). It’s 9.8cm long, 5.1cm wide and weighs around 115gm. The phone is a slider, just like the Chocolate, but it innovates by adding a roller in place of the touch-sensitive D-pad. From the pictures, it seems the roller only moves up and down.

The display is a 2.2-inch QVGA (240x320) LCD that's 'mirror-style' in that it hides behind the shiny, mirror-finish exterior. When the display is turned off or on stand by, the top portion looks like a mirror, which is similar to the completely black surface of the Chocolate.

The Shine has a Shneider Kreuznach 2-megapixel digital camera along with a flash, and 1GB built-in memory to store all your stuff. There is also a memory card slot on the right side of the phone. The details are unavailable, but it will probably be a microSD/TransFlash card since that's what LG has been putting in most of their phones.

The phone will go with three model numbers–SV420, LV4200, KV4200–depending on the network. Initially it will be available only in Korea with Cyon, but just like the Chocolate, this will shine all over the world very soon. I hope this is one of those 21 phones that LG is planning to shower over India with in 2007 .

I recently purchased the shine (lv4200) It is very pricy but put all the other phones I looked at to shame. I definitely reccommend a plastic case to keep a flawless look to it. Overall I give this phone 4 stars only because of the outrageous price of $500! I guess quality has a price and I expect it to last me about 3 years.
