MTNL Launches Trial IPTV Programme
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Aug 03, 2006
MTNL has announced that it has tied up with broadcasters STAR TV, Prasar Bharati, Zee TV and Sony Entertainment to provide content for it's soon to be launched pilot IPTV service.

The service will be named Tri-Band, with trial services scheduled to commence in New Delhi and Mumbai within the next few weeks. The deal which has been in the works for some time now gained momentum in March when MTNL contracted Time Broadband Services (TBS) to develop and install the content delivery systems for its new project. Under the seven-year financial deal TBS will design and deploy the content delivery networks as well as market the service. Hewlett Packard will be the middleman and will function as systems integrator for this new service.

Other telecom majors like Bharti and Reliance already have their plans for IPTV in place. Following this launch I am sure we can expect similar announcements from them in a short while.

I am s subscriber. This service sucks. No sports channels. Only ten sports and DD sports. Clarity is also screwed up and it hangs. Go for it only if you are light tv watcher.
