It features the SMART-WRITE technology, which automatically detects and decides the optimal write strategy of the DVD recordable media (DVD+R and DVD-R) for the best write quality. Generally with cheap quality media if you record at the maximum speed there is a high risk of the disc going bad. But with Lite-On it automatically detect what's best and will accordingly reduce the writing speed with inferior media.
Since it's an all write drive it can write all kinds of media including dual layer and DVD-RAM discs. It writes certified DVD-RAM at 12x max, DVD+R DL( dual layer) and DVD-R DL at 8x max, hi-speed DVD+RW at 8x max and high speed DVD-RW at 6x max.
