Moser Baer has announced the launch of its Optical Disk Drive (ODD) i.e. Combo drive and DVD writer, marking the company's foray into the PC peripherals industry. Moser Baer in partnership with Taiwan’s Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions Corp., has launched the ODDs in India in the name of “Moser Baer - Lite-on”.
Moser Baer now plans to extend into the fast-growing PC peripherals market in India, given its credibility among drive manufacturers. The company plans to enter this market by launching products in five metros and create a niche for itself.
"The launch complements our existing optical media business and we are hoping that by leveraging our established strong brand equity we will emerge as a front-runner with a significant market share in this segment too," said Bhaskar Sharma, executive vice president, Moser Baer India Ltd.
"It has been our constant endeavor at Moser Baer to reach out to our potential and existing target customers with high quality products in various segments. We see a lot of potential and latent demand in the PC peripheral market in India and I am sure Moser Baer will carve a niche for itself in this segment too,” said Deepak Puri, CMD, Moser Baer India Limited.
Currently the IT vertical industry (PCs and notebooks) is pegged at Rs 20,000 crore and the PC peripheral industry is worth Rs 12,000 crore. Moser Baer with its entry into the ODD Market plans to capture 20% market share of the present market size of five lakh units per month.
Moser Baer is already a major player in the USB Drives and Memory Cards market. Its latest endeavor into PC peripherals will further help in strengthening its position is the industry. The move is seen as a logical extension to its existing strategy in India. Moser Baer clearly intends to position itself as a major player in the PC peripheral industry as well, with more IT products in the pipeline poised to enter the market.
