This copy protection system installs a driver that runs at the highest level of access on the system, which gives it low level access to the PC's hardware and any drivers and processes. This driver runs regardless of whether the game runs; keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity such as attempting to copy a protected disc. If something suspicious is detected, it forces the PC to make an immediate reboot, regardless of any other applications running and whether or not the user has any unsaved work.
Now this is just wrong on so many levels. Who is Starforce to determine what I should or shouldn't run on my PC? Image mounting tools like Daemon Tools aren't only used to run pirated copies of games - they are also used to mount Linux images and other ISO images. It's like banning Windows Media Player because it can be used to view illegally obtained movies. It doesn't make any sense. And how the hell is rebooting my computer every few minutes going to promote anti-piracy?

Contrary to what game developers may think, gamers are being put off by titles that are bundled with Starforce (we hope you're listening, Ubisoft). So basically, in order to promote anti-piracy, companies are chasing away paying customers as well. Oh the irony of it all!
