Company of Heroes 2 Will be DX10 Only
By: Nikhil Singh   |   Apr 10, 2007
According to an announcement made by THQ, Company of Heroes 2 is scheduled for a Q3 2007 release, and will be made using DirectX 10 technology. This means that the game will be playable on Windows Vista only as of now, so you might have to upgrade your OS to play it. If you’re using Windows Vista already, this should be great news for you, since the game will look far better on DX10 than it did on DX9. Once Relic’s in-house developed ‘Essence Engine’ is upgraded, it will support a dynamic weather system, along with Shader Model 4.0 and a far more realistic physics engine than before.

If you have a DirectX 10 card such as the GeForce 8800 GTS/GTX, you’re should really be looking forward to this game. If you don’t however, you can always get your hands on the newly released Company of Heroes expansion – Opposing Force.

This sounds very exciting. I've got Vista running on a Q6600 with a 8800GTS and unfortunately the DX10 quality settings are too demanding on 1920x1200 (runs smoothly on 'high'). I regard CoH as the most entertaining and athmospherically dense RTS (followed by SupCom and C&C). Thanks also to the soundtrack and voices.

CoH is one of those RTS, where you don't just follow plan A, spam a bunch of tanks and roll over you opponent. I hope Relic enhances replay functionality, allows watching live games and fixes some network hassle.

Way to fact check your information, its almost Q2 2008 and relic still hasn't voiced a word about company of Heroes 2. Congrats great article.

ALL BS.

CoH runs smoothly with DX9 + DX10.

The differences are barely noticable concluded a recent CoH review comparing DX9 to DX10.
