Gaming hardware provider Asus displayed some of its products, including yet-to-be released products in India for a preview, at the WGT conference in Mumbai. Products on display included high-end gaming PCs from Asus, Lamborghini laptops, which will be launched in India by November 15, the quad band PDA phone (P525) which is due for a December launch in the country and the Asus PhysX PI card.
Asus also showed off its large screen LCD monitor, PWZ01 with an in-built camera, among other products.
When asked about the potential of PC gaming in India, Andrew Tsui, managing director of Asus said, "There is huge potential for PC gaming in India. With better broadband connection and Internet, Indians are being drawn to online PC gaming. This trend is going to see a 6 fold growth in the PC gaming market within the next two years."
Tsui admitted that PC gaming is expensive, as high-end gaming PCs cost anything from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,50,000—but pointed out that these are only for the discerning gamer. He added, "Not everybody goes out to buy a Lamborghini or a Mercedes right? It has its own market, just as these hardcore gaming PCs do."
Speaking about next generation gaming consoles like the Xbox 360, Tsui said, "While console gaming is suited for amateurs, PC gaming is more intellectually stimulating so it is meant for more serious gamers."
However, Tsui did admit that the gaming scenario will continue to be dominated by consoles and predicted that in the near future, the market size of PC gaming and console gaming will be 1:5 respectively.
