After being delayed from its original schedule by over two weeks, Apple has finally shipped its wireless media player/set-top box which is simply called "Apple TV" to stores and markets around the United States. The media player which had been first unveiled, at Macworld in January this year is Apple first foray into such a device. The wireless media player boasts of a 40 GB HDD, connects via HDMI and is able to sync with iTunes lists of 4 different PCs/Macs using Wi-Fi as its transmission medium.
Despite its promise, Apple TV does have some major limitations. The HDMI slot used by Apple TV, though becoming popular, is only found on high-end TVs and LCD monitors. Secondly, despite having a 40 GB HDD, Apple TV cannot record live TV like other DVRs. Finally it cannot access video based websites, such as YouTube and Google video.
